What ISO 14002-3 is, and what it is for

ISO 14002-3 is titled "Environmental management systems — Guidelines for using ISO 14001 to address environmental aspects and conditions within an environmental topic area — Part 3: Climate." Published in July 2026, it applies the general aspect/condition framework the ISO 14002-1 course covers specifically to climate, addressing the topic from two directions at once: managing the greenhouse gas emissions an organization itself causes, and managing the risks and opportunities a changing climate creates for that organization.

Guidance that builds on existing climate standards

Like the rest of the series, it is guidance, not a requirements standard. It does not invent new climate science or new measurement methods; it builds on existing ISO and non-ISO climate standards already used for greenhouse gas accounting and climate-risk assessment, and explains how to bring that work into an ISO 14001 environmental management system rather than running it separately.

Knowledge checkDoes ISO 14002-3 create new greenhouse gas measurement methods of its own?

No. It builds on existing ISO and non-ISO climate standards already used for this purpose, and explains how to bring that work into an ISO 14001 system.
