What ISO 14002-2 is, and what it is for

ISO 14002-2:2023 is titled "Environmental management systems — Guidelines for using ISO 14001 to address environmental aspects and conditions within an environmental topic area — Part 2: Water." Published in May 2023, it applies the general framework Module 1 of the ISO 14002-1 course covers, aspects, conditions, and how topic-area findings feed into ISO 14001 planning, specifically to water: withdrawal, efficient use, discharge, water quality, and events such as droughts and floods.

Guidance, not a requirements standard

Like the rest of the series, it is guidance, not a requirements standard. An organization cannot be certified against ISO 14002-2 on its own; its own environmental management system is still certified, where certification is sought, against ISO 14001 itself. It applies to organizations of any size, sector or location, not only those with an obviously water-intensive process.

Knowledge checkCan an organization be certified against ISO 14002-2 on its own?

No. Like the rest of the ISO 14002 series, it is guidance for applying ISO 14001, not a separate certifiable requirements standard.
